About Us

We are the association for every cattle farmer in Ghana.

The Ghana National Association of Cattle Farmers (GNACAF) is the apex organization representing individuals and groups of cattle farmers, pastoralists, and their value chain actors across Ghana. Established in 2008 and formally registered with the Registrar General’s Department in February 2010, GNACAF serves as the national voice of the livestock sector, particularly the cattle industry. GNACAF is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-tribal, and non-religious organization dedicated to promoting sustainable livestock farming and pastoralism in Ghana. Member Organizations under GNACAF Include:

(i)Barke Cattle Traders (BCT)

(ii)Youth in Livestock and Pastoralism (YLP)

(iii)Women in Livestock Value Chain (WLVC)

(iv)Women Small-Scale Livestock Breeders (WSLB)

(v)Dabre Communities Cattle Farmers Association (DCCFA)

Core Services of GNACAF

The Ghana National Association of Cattle Farmers (GNACAF ) is a non-governmental organisation with the core programs and services below

Capacity Building

GNACAF's livestock center aims to modernize Ghana's cattle industry through improved breeding, markets, pasture management, veterinary care, farmer training, education, humane processing, and dairy production.

Advocacy

GNACAF aims to reduce conflict between cattle breeders and crop farmers through mediation and education, promoting peaceful coexistence and cooperation.

Market Access

GNACAF will help farmers form cooperatives to improve their resources, market access, and bargaining power through bulk purchasing, collaborative marketing, and access to financing.

Veterinary Services

Veterinary services within GNACAF play a vital role in supporting livestock health and productivity across member farms. These services include disease prevention and control, vaccination programs, diagnostic support, animal health education, and emergency response to outbreaks.

Our Mission

To create sustainable partnerships with government, particularly through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, National Security, academia, national and international affiliates, and other key stakeholders. These partnerships aim to improve the livestock industry, address its challenges, enhance food and nutrition security, and improve the livelihoods of farmers and value chain actors.

To promote the comprehensive development of the livestock industry and ensure the well-being of all its value chain actors nationwide.

Specific Objectives

GNACAF’s specific goals include, but are not limited to:

1. Promoting cattle farming and peaceful pastoralism in Ghana.

2. Fostering peaceful co-existence between cattle herders and crop farmers.

3. Encouraging agro-pastoral integration.

4. Promoting education in rural farming communities, especially for the girl child.

5. Building capacity through training and awareness on improved animal husbandry practices.

6. Encouraging greater youth and women participation in livestock production and value chain activities.

7. Supporting conflict prevention and resolution between herders and farmers.

8. Partnering with public and private institutions to support the livestock sector.

9. Promoting the gradual adoption of semi-intensive and intensive farming practices, including artificial insemination, to boost productivity and reduce conflicts.

10. Strengthening Data Collection and Management Systems.

11. Promoting Animal Health and Veterinary Services

12. Collaborating with government and stakeholders to improve livestock development and actors welfare.
